VA Disability Compensation – There are two different types of Veterans Affairs disability compensation. The first is the immediate payment benefits awarded to the veteran or their beneficiaries after the conclusion of their service period in the military. The other type of VA disability compensation is the non-directly awarded compensation intended to provide disability compensation for a pre-arranged period. Either type of VA disability compensation may be paid out regardless of the veteran’s date of birth. The actual amount is figured by taking a percentage of the total wages and salary that a person brings home every year.

The VA system awards this compensation to veterans who have served in the Armed Forces in any capacity since 1960. This means any member of the Selected Reserve, including members of the National Guard and Reserve, or members of the National Maritime Service, or members of the Coast Guard, while employed on active duty. In addition to the percentage mentioned above, this type of compensation also considers the number of years the individual was enlisted. Also considered is the length of time they served with the Coast Guard or the Navy. When you reach the age of 65, you are eligible for this type of compensation.

A very complicated legal process determines all Veterans Affairs disability compensations. First, a great deal of information has to be collected from a person about their general health condition and their specific career and military service. This medical data is then processed using sophisticated statistical methods. Finally, a specialist will review all this data and determine which disabilities qualify under the system.

VA disability rating systems are based on several factors, such as the nature of a person’s service to the government, rank, and conduct during their military career. In recent times, statisticians have been collecting more information about individuals from a military backgrounds. For example, if a person served as a radio operator in the Air Force, they may receive additional benefits. Similarly, if individuals have worked in the communications sector for a long time, they can be given better compensation.

The actual determination of a person’s disability begins with a VA evaluation. Once this is completed, the specialist will determine the severity of the impairment, i.e., whether the condition limits one’s functioning. If the review determines that the state limits the ability to earn an income (most VA disability ratings), the rating will be high. If not, the rating will be below. After the rating is decided upon, the rating system is improved by adding years of service to the equation. This money is allocated in the form of a percentage of the person’s final VA compensation. A higher rate means a more generous settlement. On the other hand, lower ratios mean that a smaller portion of the person’s final compensation will be disbursed. However, suppose a person is eligible for a more considerable lump sum than his fellow applicants.
